DOHA — Snoonu, the Qatari super-app majority-owned by Jahez Group, has acquired BiteSight, a New York-based, Y Combinator-backed video food-discovery startup, for undisclosed terms.
BiteSight, part of YC's Winter 2024 batch, built a short-form video app for food discovery that passed 150,000 US downloads and peaked at number two in the US App Store's Food and Drink category, ahead of Uber Eats and McDonald's. It had raised a $1.5 million pre-seed in 2024 backed by Y Combinator, SurgePoint Capital and executives from Airbnb and Starbucks. Co-founders Bernardo Burboa Quiroga and Lucious McDaniel IV will build from Qatar.
For Snoonu, the deal adds a content-driven discovery layer to its q-commerce platform. For Jahez, which completed its 76.56 percent acquisition of Snoonu in October 2025, it extends the group's international operating arm with product talent it could not easily hire locally. MENA startups rarely buy YC-backed US consumer apps; the flow usually runs the other way.
Watch whether Snoonu ships BiteSight's format inside its own app this year, and whether other Gulf super-apps start shopping for US product teams.
Zawya first reported the acquisition.
