MANAMA — Mumtalakat, Bahrain's sovereign wealth fund, has taken a strategic stake in Tanami, the digital private-markets investment platform, for an undisclosed amount.
The investment was announced on the sidelines of Gateway Gulf 2026 in a release from Mumtalakat. It is Tanami's second sovereign-linked backer: the startup raised a September round from stc's tali ventures, Qatar Development Bank and 1818 Ventures.
Tanami was founded in 2023 by Nawaf Almaskati and Faisal Aljalahma and launched in Bahrain in 2025 under a Central Bank of Bahrain licence, adding a Saudi CMA licence since. Its chairman is Talal Al Zain, a former Mumtalakat chief executive with Investcorp and PineBridge on his CV. The platform took the grand prize at Money20/20 Middle East's MoneySurge and was named Mumtalakat's Startup of the Year.
The read: GCC sovereigns are shifting from passive LP positions to direct seats on startup cap tables, and a former Mumtalakat chief executive chairing the company makes this cheque as much relationship as portfolio. Expect Tanami's private-markets rails to get a Bahrain-first distribution push next.
