DOHA — Aligator has raised $1.2 million in seed funding to automate public relations with autonomous AI agents.
The round came from Qatar Development Bank, Next Ventures, the Media City Qatar fund, and private investors. No lead investor was disclosed.
Founded in 2025 by Qatar Foundation alumni from Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar and Texas A&M University at Qatar, and led by founder and chief executive Ali Abbas, Aligator builds agents that handle media outreach, press materials, coverage monitoring and campaign management. The company is registered at the Qatar Financial Centre, incorporated in Media City Qatar and headquartered in Msheireb Downtown Doha.
The cheque is small, but the cap table is the story. QDB and Media City Qatar's venture arm are both state-linked vehicles, and their joint appearance signals that Doha wants applied AI companies anchored inside its media free zone rather than incorporated abroad. Qatar has spent the past two years building free-zone incentives to attract exactly this profile of early-stage, university-spinout founder.
Watch whether Aligator converts its QFC registration and Media City Qatar incorporation into regional agency contracts, and whether its next round prices in Doha or follows clients to Riyadh and Dubai.
MarketersMedia first reported the round.
